Rob is a varied and diverse songwriter, reaching for inspiration from many different streams. Among those streams is his experience with early music, particularly from Celtic tradition. In 1997, Rob wrote a collection of songs that are markedly Celtic, that are featured on his album "Words & Music", published in 2001. Of particular interest is the song "Blower of Winds", a Celtic tribute to the "Giver of Earth and Sunlight", a Christian hymn suspiciously bordering on the side of paganism, which features tinwhistle, bodhran, as well as open tuned guitar. Also of note in the Celtic vein are "Ivy" and "Caleb's Song", two opened-tuned, Celtic-style guitar instrumentals.
