What is Irish music?

Irish music is the music of Ireland. It might be traditional Irish music, like the reels and jigs you might be most-familiar with. It might be the folk songs of Ireland. And of course, it could also be contemporary music made by musicians from Ireland. I focus most on traditional music like the type you can find in the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast?

Where can I find traditional Irish music?

The best place to find traditional Irish music is to find the gatekeepers. These are the people and business that are actively promoting Irish music. The number one example is the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast. It features Irish music from around the globe by Irish musicians as well as by Irish descendants playing the music of their homeland. There are hundreds of episodes where you can listen and sample the music for FREE!

Your next best bet is perhaps the Irish Music Magazine. It's a great resource and highlights the top Irish music groups and performers. However, this is largely focused on the music of Ireland.

Finally, You will find a lot of Irish music when you go to the streaming sites like Spotify. There's a lot of great playlists highlighting Irish music from around the world. It's also one of the best, free ways to support Irish music. The musicians make very little money from streaming. However, it is one of the best ways for you to get to know the artists. From there, you can decide which ones you love enough to support them financially so they can keep creating great music for you.

Oh! And you can also just listen to my St Patrick's Day album.

Can I go see Irish music with you in Ireland?

Every year, I take a small group of people to Ireland and Scotland. We get to know the area and fall in love with the music. You can join me in 2023 as we visit Westport, Ireland in County Mayo. We'll spend a week there in June. You'll enjoy Irish music every night of our trip. It's called Celtic Invasion Vacations.
